Announcing ATCF's delegation to the Texas Valley
May 16-18, 2014

Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera's April delegation will follow "the path of an immigrant." Here's a tentative outline of the itinerary:

  • - A South Texas immigrant detention facility, conversation with the director, possibly with detainees.
  • - An immigrant colonia near the Rio Grande where residents organize themselves for their rights and their survival.
  • - The Wall: walk a short section of it, speak with a Sierra Club representative and, possibly, a border patrol agent.
  • - Legal group in San Antonio that offers free or low cost services to immigrants.
  • - Meet with an organizer from our Mexican partner group, the Comité Fronterizo de Obrer@s, who will cross the border into Texas to meet with our group.
We will need to complete registration for this delegation relatively early in order to comply with ICE regulations for entering a detention facility. Let us know if you are interested: Judith at chelarose@grandecom.net or Charles at crand@austincc.edu

Note also that ATCF will be one of the sponsors/participants in a forum on March 1, 2014, on "Why People Migrate," a perfect way to prepare for the delegation. The forum will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church on Grover, 4 to 6PM. More details to come.
